Nigeria, the 8th largest oil producer in the world, has numerous problems. 70% of its population lives on $1 a day, life expectancy is 47, and its government is one of the most corrupt in the world. Oil production is being threatened by armed gangs extorting companies through sabotage and kidnapping.

The 2007 elections in Nigeria highlight the problems apparent throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, like government corruption and lack of infrastructure. Many people are idealizing the military dictatorships of the 1960s.
